100 % renewable energy islands in Southeast Asia Case study from Thailand
Short description
The “Green hydrogen for 100% renewable energy islands in Southeast Asia” (Green-H2Islands) project will investigate how green hydrogen technology can be integrated as seasonal storage in island mini-grids to achieve 100% renewable energy supply. Green hydrogen technology will be installed at one mini-grid site in Thailand and its operation will be closely monitored and data collected. Based on the results of the project, a market study will be developed. In addition, a dimensioning tool to model island energy systems including green hydrogen technology will be developed to support further project development and results of case studies will feed into the study.
In addition to the implementation of the hydrogen technology, capacity building activities (information events, stakeholder workshops and training) will be carried out.
The student assistant will support the project team in all project activities and, depending on the student's specific skills and interests, will have the potential to delve deeper into one of the activities.Your tasks
- Support in the organisational aspects of the project (consortium calls, protocols, administrative tasks)
- Data collection for the study and information material for the capacity building activities
- Supporting stakeholder workshops and events
- Depending on skills and motivation of student: Support in tool development, GIS analysis for market potential study etc.
Your profile
- Candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program, preferably in renewable energy technologies, energy modelling, geography, informatics or a related relevant field for the described project
- Python skills are a must if the candidate is willing to support tool development
- GIS skills are a must if the candidate is willing to support the GIS analysis of non-electrified islands in Southeast Asia
- Excellent skills in word, excel and power point are required
- Residence and right of abode in Germany is required
- Excellent English language skills are required (C1), Thai skills are a plus
- Expertise/experience in island energy systems / mini-grids is a plus
- Identification with the RLI Values
- We expect successful candidates to work independently, systematically, and thoroughly with minimal supervision

General condition
- Start of work on 01.12.2024 or by arrangement
- Contract duration up to 3 years possible
- Between 40 and 60 hours per month possible by arrangement
- Remuneration with a gross hourly rate of €15.00 per hour
